This 1935 Mercedes-Benz 500K is a Cabriolet C with Sindelfingen coachwork and seating for four. It is described as the Paris Show car, one of a batch of 25 right-hand-drive cars, and was sold new at that show in 1935. Its early history is not documented, though the right-hand drive suggests it may have gone to England.
The current owner bought it at the Pebble Beach auctions in 1998, where it was reported as the most expensive car sold. It then spent years in a prominent Portuguese collection. It was run for 20km every month and also appeared at shows and rallies. The dealer says about €100,000 has recently been spent at a supercharged-Mercedes specialist near Munich on its mechanical condition.
It is finished in mid blue over light grey leather piped in blue, with a lined blue mohair hood. Equipment includes dual side-mounted spare wheels, a centre spotlamp and twin trumpet horns. It is registered in Portugal (AD-41-60) and viewings are in Lisbon. The price is on application.
