The W111 280SE 3.5 was the top of the pillarless Paul Bracq-designed coupé range, and the first to carry Mercedes' M116 V8 with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection. The page says only 3,270 were built, which makes it a rare car even among classic Mercedes coupés. This one is finished in Grey Blue Metallic (906) over Creme Beige (275) and has a four-speed automatic gearbox.
It shows 61,526 miles, with only about 9,000 added since 2008. It was first registered in the UK in August 1971 and stayed with its first owner, a woman, for 37 years before passing to a small number of collectors.
A history folder holds nearly £27,000 of receipts dating back to 1998. They cover fuel system and brake overhauls, and more recent work on the timing chain, steering, engine mounts and electrics. A file of old MOT certificates supports the mileage back to 1982.
