Maserati Khamsin

The Khamsin was Maserati's Citroën-era grand tourer, a Bertone-styled Marcello Gandini design with a dry-sump 4.9-litre V8 and high-pressure hydraulics for the brakes, steering, clutch and headlight pods. Only 71 were built in right-hand drive, and this is one of them, supplied new in March 1978 through UK concessionaires MTC Cars. It was originally Marrone Colorado with a mushroom-coloured Connolly leather interior, and the first owner was reputedly Mike Oldfield.

The car sat in a large northern collection from 1989 until a 2003 auction, showing 25,700 miles, and has since been repainted red. It has been maintained by McGrath for over 20 years, with all invoices on file, and now shows just over 40,000 miles.

In 2023 it had a bare-metal repaint, a new stainless steel exhaust and an overhaul of the rear subframe and suspension, costing around £75,000. Photos show a remarkably rust-free body, and the interior is largely original. It has not been driven since that work, is being sold on behalf of the late owner's widow, and will be serviced and given a new MOT before sale.
