This is a modern recreation of the 1959 Lister Costin, the aerodynamic Jaguar-engined sports-racer that replaced the 'Knobbly'. Pearsons Engineering, the Jaguar competition specialist, spent 18 months hand-building it to the original 1959 specification, working from archive drawings and period techniques. Only 12 original Costins were built, and the page cites a top speed above 180mph for the type.
On completion in September 2016 the car was inspected by the Lister Motor Company and confirmed to 'Lister Ex-Works Specification'. It received Sanction II status and the historic chassis number BHL 183S. That makes it eligible for events including the Le Mans Classic and the Goodwood Members' Meeting. Power comes from a Crosthwaite & Gardiner-built dry-sump Jaguar six with Pearsons' wide-angle head and high-lift camshafts, rated at 370bhp.
Its record includes pole in Plateau 3 at the 2018 Le Mans Classic and outright victory in the 2021 Pall Mall Cup three-hour race at Silverstone. A class win followed at Donington in 2022. Pearsons has prepared and maintained it throughout, with invoices on file. Condition is described as excellent overall, with a few stone chips on the nose and small spidering in the bonnet paint.
