This 1951 Jaguar Mark V drophead coupe is a rare survivor of a short-lived model, and is believed to be the third from last built. It has the later factory handbrake conversion and the 3.5-litre engine with a four-speed gearbox. It was first registered in August 1951 to a firm of chartered accountants in East Grinstead, and has carried the same JJW 591 plate throughout.
The car has been restored more than once. Work includes a £22,000 restoration in the 1990s, a bare-shell rebuild and repaint in its original black around 2013 to 2015, and a further £24,000 programme in 2019 with a full engine rebuild and a new hood. It has won best in show at the South Wales Classic Car Show and was displayed with the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club at Windsor Castle in 2017.
The odometer reads over 47,000 miles, which the documentation is said to support. The car has covered about 500 miles since the 2019 rebuild. The history file holds the original buff logbook, MOT certificates back to 1975, a Heritage Certificate and photographs of the restoration work.
