About this car
The 4.2-litre Series I Fixed Head Coupe is the definitive early E-Type: larger engine than the original 3.8, retaining the covered headlights, slimmer bumpers, and purer interior of the pre-Series II cars. This matching-numbers example, finished in Pale Primrose — one of the more characterful period colours available — has been through a thorough, ground-up restoration and shows just 100 miles since completion, making it effectively a freshly built car.
The rebuild specification is firmly oriented toward fast-road usability without sacrificing the car's essential character. Mechanically, an E-Type Fabrications 5-speed synchromesh gearbox replaces the original 4-speed unit, while the XK straight-six has been rebuilt to zero-time with a fast-road camshaft, polished inlet manifold, K&N air filter, and SU carburettors fitted with E10-compatible floats. Stopping power comes from Fosseway vented disc brakes with an uprated Fosseway handbrake, a Powr-Lok limited slip differential handles power delivery, and EZ power-assisted steering with a speed-sensitive actuator substantially reduces the effort the standard rack demands at parking speeds. Suspension gains GAZ adjustable shock absorbers, uprated front torque bars, and a polyurethane anti-roll bar. The ceramic-coated exhaust manifold feeds a polished stainless steel sports exhaust system.
The cabin presents on 15-inch MWS chromed wire wheels with a 15-inch wooden steering wheel, Series II reclining leather seats in black hide, and a polished aluminium instrument cluster with Caerbont speedometer and tachometer. Practical additions include a retro-look DAB radio with Bluetooth and a Smartrack GPS tracking system — concessions to modern use that don't disturb the period aesthetic. Galvanised bodywork and a gloss-black galvanised fuel tank underpin the longevity of the restoration.
