Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet

This is a Mk4 Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet, first registered in July 1990 and powered by the fuel-injected 1.6-litre CVH engine. It is described as a last-year limited edition, finished in a two-tone metallic blue over silver that is very much of its period.

The history is unusual. The car is thought to have been supplied new through Chipping Sodbury Motor Co and spent most of its life around Bristol. It was imported in 1991, probably from Ireland. It entered a private collection in 2002 and was dry stored, reportedly never used on the public road. It is on 90,000 miles and has no signs of welding, with underseal that looks original.

A local garage has recommissioned it for the road. The work covers a new fuel pump and fresh fuel, a flushed cooling system with a new radiator, a cambelt and water pump, auxiliary belts, plugs and filters. The brakes have new discs, pads, shoes and cylinders, and there are fresh tyres. The electric roof and windows work properly, and the interior is in excellent order apart from minor driver's bolster wear. It has a fresh MOT, two sets of keys, the V5C, receipts for the recent work, a couple of older MOTs and the original mud flaps. Only the radio and parcel-shelf speakers are aftermarket. It comes from a deceased estate, so earlier history is limited, and it is sold as seen.
