This Bristol 401 dates from March 1953 and carries chassis number 401/1192. It was first registered to Kellett (Wools) Ltd of Yorkshire and has stayed in the UK through several owners. The 401 is one of the more aerodynamically considered British grand tourers of its era, built on the 2.0-litre Bristol six, which traces back to BMW. This one is finished in light blue metallic over cream leather with brown piping.
It has been modified for use. The 2.2-litre 110-series engine was rebuilt by IN Racing with Cosworth pistons and a high-torque camshaft. The car has a 406-type front cross member and anti-roll bar, front disc brakes, and a Bristol BWCR gearbox with a magnesium remote change and Laycock A-type overdrive. Electronic 123 ignition, an electric fuel pump and an electric fan with auto controller are also fitted.
The car has had a body-off-chassis restoration, with the bodywork done by Mitchell Motors, plus a documented mechanical rebuild. The history file lists bills of more than £115,000 and includes the current V5, old MOTs and invoices. The car has competed in the Tour Britannia several times. It is right-hand drive.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Bristol Aeroplane Co. published engine figures (1971cc BMW-derived straight-six, 85 bhp). Weight and performance were left null because no confirmed factory figures exist; known figures come from period road tests.).
£79,950 since it was listed on 5 November 2026. No changes yet.
