The Z1 is one of BMW's more eccentric production cars: a two-seat roadster with thermoplastic body panels bolted to a galvanised steel monocoque, and doors that drop electrically into the sills. Only around 8,000 were built between 1988 and 1991, and its multi-link rear axle was a precursor to the layout used in the E36 3 Series.
This 1989 car has the 2.5-litre M20 straight-six from the E30 325i, rated at 170 bhp, with a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. It also has a Mosselman turbo conversion, which the dealer puts at around 200 bhp. It has covered 11,480 miles, which is low for a 36-year-old car.
It reached the UK in June 1989 and has had four owners, the latest since October 2009. A history file holds service receipts and MOTs, and the car was previously supplied by Munich Legends. It comes from a larger BMW collection, and over £2,700 has recently been spent on an oil service, spark plugs, timing belt and water pump, and gearbox and differential oils. The car has been HPI checked and a fresh MOT is promised before sale.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (BMW AG factory data for the Z1 (M20B25, 170 PS/125 kW, 225 km/h). Weight left blank because sources disagree. 0-60 left blank because BMW only gave 0-100 km/h.).
