The Z1 was BMW Technik's showcase of ideas: a steel monocoque with removable body panels, and doors that drop down into the sills. Only about 8,000 were built between 1989 and 1991, all of them left-hand drive, and most went to German buyers. It remains one of the more unusual BMWs of its era.
This car was first registered in June 1989 and came to the UK from new. It uses the 2.5-litre straight-six from the 325i, with roughly 170 bhp sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. It is finished in Black Metallic with a grey leather interior, and the soft top folds away beneath the rear cover.
The page gives 10,034 km (6,220 miles) from new. It has recently been recommissioned by the dealer after a period in storage under the last owner. A history file and the original booklets and manuals accompany the car.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (BMW factory data, 1989: 170 PS, 225 km/h. Only a 0-100 km/h time was published, so 0-60 is null.).
