Chassis BC7EL is the thirty-eighth of just 58 right-hand-drive S1 Continental drophead coupes bodied in aluminium by Park Ward to Design No 700, a shape often regarded as the best-looking open post-war Bentley. Completed in May 1958 for a customer in Kincardineshire and supplied through an Aberdeen dealer, it has had only two owners from new.
As an EL-series car it has the later mechanical specification: factory power steering, the larger carburettors and a dual-reservoir brake system, plus a power-operated hood. It still wears its original colour scheme of Midnight Blue over red leather. The paint had been changed to royal blue in the first family's ownership, and the second owner, who bought it in 1989, had it returned to the original colour.
That owner had a Bentley specialist restore the coachwork, chrome and cabin woodwork, fit a new dark blue mohair hood and carry out an engine overhaul, with the original leather retained. Use since has been sparing, and a recent mechanical review was carried out by Clark & Carter. The car comes with its tools, a touring kit, the original handbook, copy chassis cards and a history file. Mileage is not stated.
