This is chassis BC48DJ, the thirty-fifth of just fifty-eight right-hand-drive aluminium-bodied Park Ward drophead coupes built on the S1 Continental chassis to Design No 700. The style grew out of John Blatchley's work on the R Type Continental and is often regarded as the most handsome open post-war Bentley. This car has factory power windows, an unusual option.
It was completed in March 1958 for Mr G.R. Kennerley of Vernons Pools, supplied through H.R.Owen in moorland grey and ruby red with a grey-green leather interior. Later owner Felix Furlonger had it refinished in sable. Frank Dale bought it from him and supplied it to the current owner in February 2012.
About a year later the owner commissioned a full restoration, roughly a decade ago. It included coachwork restoration and a repaint in bronze, rechromed brightwork, a new black mohair hood, a tan leather interior with matching carpets and restored woodwork. Air conditioning was added, and the engine, brakes, suspension and steering were overhauled. The dealer says it has been used sparingly since. No mileage is stated.
