The R Type was Bentley's post-war touring saloon, introduced in 1952 as the successor to the Mark VI and distinguished by a much larger boot. This 1953 right-hand-drive example is the standard steel-bodied saloon, powered by the 4.6-litre six with a four-speed manual gearbox. It is finished in blue over a red interior.
Its history is better documented than most. It was delivered new on 12 May 1953 through the main Bentley dealer in Sloane Square, spent time in the United States in the mid-1970s with Brian Redman and later Carl Haas, and was back in Scotland by 2016 on its original registration number.
The page reports a new clutch and work on a number of minor issues, including the one-shot lubrication system and the exhaust manifolds. The odometer reads 1,000 miles, though the page does not say whether this is the car's true total.
