Bentley Derby 4.25 Litre Overdrive MX Series Drophead Coupe By Vanden Plas

This 1939 Derby Bentley is an Overdrive-series 4.25 litre, chassis B105MX, from right at the end of production. It carries drophead coupe coachwork by Vanden Plas, one of only nine similar bodies the coachbuilder built. It was delivered new on 16 June 1939 to Sir Arthur Cory-Wright.

Peter Blond owned it for many years. He was a Sotheby's director who headed the auction house's car department, and he had the car restored nut and bolt. The work included replacing the original ash frame where needed, strengthening the door pillars, rewiring the car fully and fitting a new cylinder head. It keeps its original Marles steering box.

The car is finished in smoke green over black, with red leather upholstery and figured burr walnut on the dash and door cappings. The radiator shell is painted black, as it was when new, and there are no running boards. It has a rear-mounted spare, Town & Country horns and correct driving lights. The original handbook and a large file of bills and correspondence come with it. No mileage is stated.
