About this car

This is a Bentley special rather than a factory car: a 2003 build by Bob Petersen, constructed on a 1953 R-type chassis. The body is a muscular aluminium two-seater covered in bulges, louvres and air scoops, with black leather bucket seats, a machine-turned aluminium dash and a speedometer calibrated to 170mph.

Power comes from the 6½-litre B-series straight-eight, fitted with a Petersen BM supercharger and red-lined at 5,500rpm. A standard B81 made around 195bhp, while this engine is estimated at over 400bhp. Drive goes through a Salisbury limited-slip differential to 84-spoke 19-inch wheels on Dunlop racing tyres. A detachable cowl covers the passenger seat for solo driving, and there is a rear compartment for soft luggage.

The odometer shows about 4,000 miles since the build was completed. The current owner returned the car to Petersen to be gone through and brought up to the latest specification, and bills for recent work of well over £23,000 are on file. It comes from a small collection of mostly Bentleys. The page shows the price as "Accepted", which suggests an offer has been agreed.
