About this car

This 1937 Derby Bentley 4¼ Litre carries a three position drophead coupe body by Hooper, built to Design No 6871, which the dealer believes to be unique. Chassis B94JD was finished in April 1937 and is a right-hand-drive car, painted black with a red leather interior.

It was delivered new to an American living in London, though invoiced to a Paris address. Later owners include Victor Barclay, executive chairman of Jack Barclay Ltd, who acquired it in the early 1990s after a period in the US. The current owner bought it in 1997.

Work during that ownership includes a rear axle upgrade in 2003 for higher cruising speeds, which suited a BDC tour of South Africa that year. The coachwork was improved in 2008 and the engine was overhauled in 2016/17, with around £100,000 spent in total. It won seven awards at RREC and BDC concours events between 2004 and 2009, and comes with an extensive history file and the original handbook. The listing is marked as sold.
