About this car

This 1931 3 Litre Red Label Speed Model, chassis RC33, is described as the second-to-last W.O. Bentley built. It was completed by Rolls-Royce, along with three other cars, after the takeover of Bentley. The Red Label car carries a Vanden Plas drophead body, number 3469 in the coachbuilder's records. At first glance the body looks like a Derby Bentley's, which gives a four-seat tourer on vintage W.O. mechanicals.

The current owner has had it for more than two decades. In that time it has had a nut-and-bolt mechanical restoration with the body off. New ash framing was let in where needed, and much of the original structure was kept. The original tan seat leather survives in good condition with a patina, and most of the carpets are original. New door cards have been made. The original rear slot-in side screens are stowed behind the back seat.

An FIA passport records that the car complies with its period specification. The one modern change is an alternator under the dashboard in place of the dynamo, and the original dynamo comes with the car. A thick file documents the restoration. The odometer was zeroed when the work was finished, and the car has covered just under 7,000 miles since. It is registered in the UK and Belgium, and the page notes the price as accepted.

Performance

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Engine layout from historical Bentley Motors (Cricklewood) records. No reliable factory power, weight or performance figures, so those are null. The 3 Litre was built 1921–29, so a 1931 car is probably a late registration and the model year should be checked.).
