About this car

The Halford Special was built around Bamford & Martin chassis 1916, the first Aston Martin sold to a customer. After it was crashed at Boulogne in 1924, engine designer Major Frank Halford bought it and fitted a new two-seater body and a 1.5-litre, twin-cam, twelve-valve six of his own design. His first engine carried an exhaust-driven blower, which Octane has called the world's first turbocharged car.

The car started the first British Grand Prix at Brooklands in 1926, running as high as third before retiring on lap 82. It was later raced by George Eyston, who went on to set land speed records, and in 1928 was dismantled by Viscount Ridley. The current owner traced the original components, including one of the original engines, and completed a restoration to original specification in 1981.

It was restored again after a crash at a VSCC Silverstone meeting in 2008. Since then it has appeared at Goodwood, VSCC and AMOC events and the Klausenrennen hillclimb. The page quotes around 130 bhp and a weight of 740 kg, and says the car is confirmed eligible for the 2026 Monaco Historic Grand Prix. The asking price is listed as offers on £300,000.
