Alvis Speed 20 SB Vanden Plas Tourer

The Speed 20 was Alvis's sporting offering of the early 1930s, and this 1934 SB carries open four-seat tourer coachwork by Vanden Plas. It is not running its original engine: at some point it was fitted with the larger 3.5-litre unit from the later Speed 25, which the dealer says makes 90mph easy to reach. Power is sent through Alvis's four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox.

The car has belonged to one octogenarian owner, who used it extensively until a few years ago and had it maintained by marque specialist Early Engineering. It has just been fully serviced there, and it is said to have started instantly after four months unused. The older green paintwork is heavily patinated but presentable. The seats have been retrimmed in green, while the door cards are original. The hood is a little faded but erects and lowers easily.

It comes with a full set of unused side screens and a tonneau cover. The spare wheel is mounted on the rear, on the fold-open boot, and a Kenlowe fan has been added for cooling. The car is registered AYN14 and has chassis number 16197. It is currently in west Wales, and no mileage is stated.
