About this car

The Speed 20 ran through four series between 1931 and 1936, and the earliest SA cars, with their beam front axles, are generally rated the most responsive to drive. This one wears Vanden Plas's 'low door' four-seat tourer coachwork, and keeps the smaller, lightweight dash panel associated with the Charles Follett racing team cars.

Chassis 9885 was supplied new through Charles Follett, London's main Alvis retailer. Its early owners included the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot, and a copy of a letter from the present Earl is on file. Ian Murray owned it from 2002 to 2019, using it sparingly but regularly, including touring. It has since spent time in the USA and is returning to the dealer.

The 2019 owner had the coachwork refinished in Brewster Green and the original leather replaced with red leather, matching carpets and a new hood. The engine bay has had detailed preparation, including extensive rewiring work by a pre-war specialist, with the bill on file. A new clutch and refurbished magneto are listed, along with a full service. Documents include copies of the original Car Record, an old-style continuation logbook and a V5C. The page does not state a mileage.
