Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screen Camper

A 1958 Volkswagen Type 2 split-screen camper, which is early enough to have the pre-1960 details enthusiasts look for: the smaller rear tailgate, round tail lights, ice-pick door handles, a full-width front bench and the original ribbed bumpers. It is German-built and left-hand drive.

The two-tone Lavender Blue and Lotus White scheme dates from a restoration before the 2013 sale, when the whole shell was repainted inside and out, dashboard included. The original steel wheels have been refurbished and fitted with new stainless hub caps. There are safari pop-out front windows, six opening side windows with early spoon catches, and a stainless four-bow roof rack.

The 1600cc engine is reconditioned. It was removed for a bench service in April 2026. Changes include a retrofitted fuel gauge and a Lite-Steer electric power steering conversion. The bespoke oak-veneer interior has a sink, a two-burner gas hob, a 12v fridge, a leisure battery with split-charge relay, 240v hook-up and a rock-and-roll bed. It also has retrofitted seat belts and an immobiliser. It is sold freshly serviced with 12 months' MOT, although none is legally required at this age.
