Volkswagen T3 Kombi Syncro 16"

The 16-inch Syncro is the scarce version of Volkswagen's four-wheel-drive T3. Only around 2,000 were built out of some 45,000 Syncros, with reinforced bodywork, larger brakes and a rear diff-lock over the 14-inch cars. This one is a right-hand-drive example, which the dealer says is believed to be a handful at most.

Finished in Escorial Green with a saddle brown interior, it has a 1.6-litre turbo diesel said to be original to the van, a five-speed manual gearbox and a viscous-coupling four-wheel-drive system. The VW heritage certificate says it was built for Russia, then spent years as a safari vehicle in Tanzania's Serengeti before the current owner found it and shipped it to the UK.

It has been restored from a bare shell: rust removed, a full respray in the original colour, re-trimmed interior, rebuilt suspension, brakes and centre viscous differential, a new clutch and wiring harness, and an engine service. A photo book documents the work. It shows 36,634 miles indicated and has an MOT until July 2027.
