The Triumph Dolomite roadster was conceived at the end of the Second World War, after Standard Motor Company bought Triumph in 1944. Sir John Black wanted a sports car to challenge Jaguar, a marque SMC had supplied with engines before the war. Built on an ash frame with an aluminium bonnet and boot and steel wings, it was made from 1946 to 1949, first as the 1800 and then as this 2000.
This car was originally supplied in the UK and finished in black. It was fully restored in Switzerland in the mid-1990s and has since won and been entered in several concours events. A large archive accompanies it, including magazine articles, photo albums and trophies.
It was bought recently by a committed Triumph enthusiast, who spent £3,000 on major servicing. The dealer describes it as brisk enough for modern traffic and road trips, and supplies it inspected and serviced with a 12-month warranty.
