Spice SE89P Group C / GTP

Chassis SE 89P 002 is one of only two works Spice SE89P cars built for the 1989 IMSA GTP season. It was raced by Bob Earl, Costas Los, Wayne Taylor and Scott Atchison, and took on the Daytona 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours twice. It also finished on the podium at the 1990 New Orleans street race, against TWR Jaguars, Porsche 962s and Nissan ZX-Ts.

Its best-known chapter came in 1990, when Paul Newman drove it at Watkins Glen and Road America alongside journalist Mike Brockman, under the ownership of Bob and Linda Lee. It was the only Group C or IMSA car Newman ever raced. In period it ran Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet V8s and various aerodynamic set-ups.

Pete Chambers restored the car to Newman's 1990 specification with a bare-tub rebuild and a new all-aluminium Chevrolet V8 of almost 700 bhp. Moto Historics has since maintained it, and it has won in Historic Group C. A spares package comes with it, including bodywork in Applebee's livery and three sets of wheels.
