Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn Pininfarina Fastback Coupé

This is the only Silver Dawn bodied by Pininfarina, a one-off on chassis SCA43. It was ordered new by Luigi Bressani of Milan, specified with a speedometer in kilometres, and shown at the 1951 Turin Motor Show. The reputed finished cost of £10,000 was far too high for a series, so the idea was dropped. The Bentley Continental that followed a year later cost about half as much.

The car has the 4,257cc inlet-over-exhaust six-cylinder engine used across the Silver Dawn range. The speedometer reads 7,800 km, which the dealer believes is genuine. That is roughly 4,850 miles. The car stayed in Italy, passing to relatives of the first owner, before it was bought and registered in the UK on the age-related plate 270 YUW.

In May 2014 it won its class and placed second overall at the Warren Classic Concours d'Elegance. The current vendor had Clark and Carter go through it mechanically, and a restoration followed, with the exterior refinished in its original Georgian Silver. The car is featured in books on Rolls-Royce and on Pininfarina. The page shows the price as "Accepted", so the car may be sold or under offer.
