This 1933 Phantom II is one of fewer than 300 Continental chassis, the version built for fast, long-distance touring with longer gearing, a lower steering column and floor, and two spare wheels. Park Ward's boat-tail drophead coupé body is unusual: the rear deck splits into two hinged sections, and the hood folds away inside the body.
Chassis 55MW was completed in August 1933 for W W Worthington of Lichfield, who kept it for more than 20 years. It passed to H F Gower of London in 1954, then went to Ohio in 1958. It was restored there in 1977 and is understood to have stayed in the United States until it came back to England about 15 years ago.
Recent work at Frank Dale & Stepsons includes new carpets, restoration of the existing leather interior, coachwork preparation, restored wire wheels, new tyres and new polished wheel discs. The twin side-mounted spares remain. The engine number is given as XO25. No mileage is stated.
