About this car

This Phantom II came off test in March 1935 with a sports saloon body by Hooper. It was later shipped to the USA, where it was refitted with the Brewster dual-cowl tourer body it has worn for decades. It then spent some years in Switzerland as part of the Rothschild collection before returning to the UK in 1996.

The repatriation was followed by a major mechanical restoration, intended to prepare the car for a tour of New Zealand and Australia that never took place. The odometer was zeroed during that work and now reads 7,163 miles. A Tim Payne overdrive cuts engine revs by 28%, which suits the near-8-litre engine to modern cruising speeds. The radiator has been re-cored and the gearbox-driven servo brakes have been relined and adjusted.

The car is finished in brown with black wings, with red leather, red carpets and a figured walnut dash. It has a black hood, twin side-mounted spares, a spotlight and twin horns. A rear trunk holds two fitted suitcases, and there is a fold-out Auster screen for rear passengers. No tonneau covers are included, though the fixings for them are in place. It is registered BXR2 and carries chassis number 111TA.
