Rolls-Royce Phantom I Imperial Sedanca Faux Cabriolet

This 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom I carries Hibbard & Darrin coachwork, a Sedanca Imperial with a false cabriolet roofline. The chassis, 79OR, was finished at Derby and sent to Paris for the body, which is why it wears a French export plate on the bulkhead. It was then delivered new to Italy. Hibbard & Darrin built the body using their Sylentlyte method, which used cast aluminium rather than a timber frame.

The car is finished in mid blue with a cream bonnet top, cream-painted wire wheels and a beige fabric roof. The front section of the roof rolls up and stows behind the driver. Other details include Stephen Grebel headlamps, twin side-mounted spares and a rear luggage trunk. Inside, the front seats are in black leather with a timber dash, and the rear is trimmed in grey cloth.

It was restored in America in 1970 by John Griffin and comes with service records, manuals and a build sheet. The car is currently US-registered in Ohio. The dealer says the slipping clutch will be replaced and the car serviced by a marque specialist before sale, and that it can be UK-registered for a new owner.
