Mercedes-Benz SL SL55 AMG Kompressor

The R230 SL55 AMG pairs a hand-built 5.4-litre supercharged V8 with a five-speed automatic and a folding hard top. At launch it was billed as the fastest automatic car in the world. This 2005 example has covered 57,695 miles and is finished in Obsidian Black Metallic with a Designo charcoal grey leather interior.

Its most unusual feature is a vertical-door conversion, fitted about 12 years ago. The doors swing up as on a Lamborghini, but they also open conventionally, though not fully. Other fitted extras include a panoramic glass roof, Keyless Go, forged Carlsson 19-inch wheels, a TV tuner and a Tracker. When new the car cost £101,190, including £4,695 of options.

The service book carries 12 stamps, five from Mercedes main dealers and seven from specialists, and the file holds invoices from 2007 onwards. The current owner bought it in March 2018 and has spent £22,870 on it. Recent work includes suspension struts and a new ABC pump in December 2025, and the boot seals have been replaced. The page notes minor scuffs on a couple of wheels. It is MOT'd until December 2026 and is shown as clear on HPI.
