Lola T70 Mk3B

Chassis SL76/148 is a Lola T70 Mk3B, the last and most developed of the T70 line, of which only 16 were built. Its chassis number has an unusual back story. It was carried by two earlier cars that Picko Troberg crashed in 1969, and the third car was assembled around salvaged parts, including the roof section, fuel cell, engine and gearbox. Lola sold that car to British privateer Barrie Smith, who raced it across Europe, Argentina and South Africa in 1969 and 1970. He won at Crystal Palace and finished seventh, and first in class, at the Kyalami 9 Hours.

It was registered for the road as UKT 66H in late 1970 and has kept that plate. Later owners and drivers include Richard Bond, Gerry Marshall, Ray Mallock, David Piper and Richard Attwood. Chris Beighton has owned it since 2006, and Simon Hadfield Motorsport has prepared it for more than a decade. It wears its original Barrie Smith red livery.

Recent work includes a full crack-test rebuild in January 2024, an engine rebuild and a Hewland LG600 gearbox overhaul, followed by outings at the 2024 Monterey Pre Reunion and Reunion. The engine and gearbox have under 200 miles since the rebuild. The car comes with original bodywork, a February 1969 dated fuel cell, the numbered gearbox case, a spare engine and a large spares package. The price is on application.
