The 512 BB was Ferrari's update of the 365 GT4 BB, the first mid-engined flat-12 road car from Maranello. The larger 4.9-litre engine with dry-sump lubrication brought a higher compression ratio, wider track and tyres, and 360 bhp. Fewer than 1,000 were built, and right-hand-drive cars are the scarcer ones.
This one was supplied new through Maranello Concessionaires in May 1979 in Argento Metallic over black leather, the combination it wears today. It has covered 46,250 miles. A string of owners followed, including a period of mechanical work by Johnston's of Chichester in the 1980s. In 2014 its fifth keeper, Hall & Hall, had a bare-metal repaint in the original colour, and Fosker Engineering carried out a major mechanical overhaul. That work included a cambelt service, refinished chassis and exhaust, replated suspension and a retrimmed dashboard.
The car gained Red Book Classiche certification in 2015, confirming its original colours and matching-numbers engine and gearbox. It has been with its current owner for ten years and maintained by Joe Macari Classics. It comes with a matching two-piece luggage set and a history folio.
