Chassis 0178ED is one of only 21 Ferrari 225 S built, and one of just six given Berlinetta coachwork by Vignale to a Giovanni Michelotti design. It carries Colombo's 2.7-litre V12 and a five-speed gearbox, which was advanced for a 1952 sports-racer.
It was delivered new to Count Antonio "Bruno" Sterzi, a leading private Ferrari patron, and started the 1952 Mille Miglia, though it did not finish. Later that season it won outright at the Coppa della Toscana and took class wins at the Bolzano-Mendola hill climb and the Coppa InterEuropa at Monza. For Monza it gained its two-tone paint, side scallops, an opening boot and no bumpers, and it is presented in that form. It appeared in Ferrari's 1952 Yearbook.
After later Italian owners it went to the Carl Bross collection in America, where scorch damage and an unfinished restoration left it dormant for almost fifty years. The current owner bought it in 2001 and had Ferrari Classiche restore it. The car is Classiche certified with a White Book. Ferrari fitted a reinforced crankcase carrying the original engine number, and the car was shown at Pebble Beach in 2016. The price is on request.
