The Décapotable was Henri Chapron's convertible take on the Citroën DS, built by the French coachbuilder in very small numbers. This DS19 is recorded as number 128 in the D Series and carries Chapron body number 0013.000096. It was delivered new in France, and a Chapron Certificate confirms its origins, including its original blue paintwork and white leather interior.
The car was restored in 2000 by its previous owner, who had bought it that year. It is now finished in dark red metallic with a burgundy leather interior. The engine had been replaced before the restoration and was overhauled during it. In 2022 a German assessor, KFZ-Sachverständige, graded it 2 on a scale where 1 is the best.
It comes with the condition report, German registration documents and the Chapron Certificate. It has no UK registration and is in the country under temporary import arrangements. If it stays, import charges at the reduced 5% rate are payable by the buyer on the declared value. It can also move freely within the EU. The dealer says it runs very well, with the idiosyncratic starting routine of the DS, which uses the column-mounted gear lever.
