About this car

Most Mark VI Bentleys wore the standard pressed-steel saloon body. This one carries aluminium coachwork by Freestone & Webb of Willesden, north London, which built bespoke bodies for only 106 Mark VIs. Eighteen of those were finished to design reference 3046/C.

It was a special order, and the extras show it: front seats that wind down to the base for more leg room, coffee tables for the rear passengers, a full-length sunroof, wind-down front windows operated by a single lever and electric rear windows. Original sheepskin rugs, the tool kit, handbooks and manuals remain, as does the original registration, LGK64. The car is still in its original Masons Black and Brewster Green, with a contrasting pale green interior.

The history file is thick. The engine was fully rebuilt in the late 1990s with a rebore, new pistons and a new clutch. New tyres followed in 2013 and a new exhaust in 2016. Recent work includes a new headlining, a new boot carpet and electric power steering. The file holds bills running to tens of thousands of pounds from specialists including A & S Engineering and West Hoathly garage, and the dealer describes the car as unmessed-about with a good patina. The page gives no mileage. The listing shows "Accepted" beside the price, which suggests an offer is already in place.

Performance

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Bentley Mark VI chassis specification (straight-six, front-engined, RWD). Bentley published no power figure ('sufficient') and no performance figures for Freestone & Webb coachbuilt bodies. Engine size left blank because the change from 4,257 cc to 4,566 cc happened during 1951.).
