Austin-Healey Sprite Mk1

This Frogeye Sprite has been developed well beyond its original form. Its 948cc A-Series, which made around 43bhp, was replaced by a 1,275cc MG Metro engine under a previous owner. Frontline Developments then rebuilt and enlarged it to 1,380cc between 2015 and 2017. It now has a Moss alloy head, twin SU carburettors and roughly 100bhp, in a car that weighs little more than 650kg when standard.

Frontline also changed the chassis. The car has double-wishbone front suspension, a rear linkage with telescopic dampers, 9in front and 8in rear discs, a five-speed gearbox and a Quaife limited-slip differential. The Frogeye bonnet has been swapped for an Ashley GT item. A Honeybourne hardtop is included, along with a soft top and tonneau cover. The car runs on Minilite wheels.

First registered on 8 October 1958 and still wearing 802 SMG, it was originally yellow and is now cherry red. The page records a continuous MoT history from 1989, when it showed 40,557 miles, and 62,866 miles when the current keeper bought it in 2015. The dealer's workshop replaced the clutch kit and slave cylinder in June 2024. The history file includes the registration book, the Frontline invoices and a handwritten technical record.
