Chassis S40 is a 1930 Aston Martin 1½ Litre International, one of the First Series cars built under A.C. Bertelli at Feltham. The International was the most successful of those early models and helped establish Aston Martin's sporting reputation through the 1930s, including a class win at Le Mans in 1932.
This car has a competition history, with an appearance at Brooklands in 1932 and a Silver Award on the MCC London to Exeter Trial that December. It is a 2/4 seater finished in red with a black leather interior and a matching all-weather hood and tonneau. The gearbox is a four-speed manual.
S40 was restored in the 1960s by Dr Dudley Fairman Heath, won first place at the 1968 Belfry Concours and took five more AMOC concours wins. A second full restoration followed in the 1990s under Professor Michael Joy, carried out by pre-war specialist Bill Elwell-Smith. The history file includes the factory build records, a full owner list from 1930, the original handbook and buff logbooks.
