Aston Martin DBS

This 1971 Aston Martin DBS has been upgraded well beyond its factory specification. R S Williams, the Aston Martin specialists, took it in at the end of 2009 with 36,750 miles recorded. The work included a full chassis and body restoration, and the aluminium body was repainted to bare metal in Black Pearl.

The original 4.0-litre engine, reputedly 280 bhp, was rebuilt to 4.7 litres. It now has triple 48DCOE Weber carburettors, Vantage camshafts and revised ignition timing, and it runs on lead-free fuel. Output is quoted at 330 bhp and 335 lb ft, and the engine drives through a ZF five-speed manual gearbox with a sports gear-shift kit. The suspension and brakes were overhauled, a stainless steel exhaust and new chromed wire wheels were fitted, and the original Connolly black hide interior was refurbished. The page puts the total restoration spend at about £185,000.

The car has covered under 2,000 miles since the work was finished in November 2011, and the odometer now reads 38,086. The page lists seven previous owners. It comes with the original instruction book and a history file. The file includes the factory build sheet showing early service at Newport Pagnell, MoT certificates from 1978 onward, photographs of the restoration and the detailed RSW invoice.
