About this car

The GTA was Alfa Romeo's homologation special for touring car racing: a lightened, more powerful Giulia Sprint GT with aluminium body panels, Plexiglas side and rear glass and magnesium castings, bringing the weight down to 745 kg. Alfa's records show 493 were built, of which 50 were right-hand drive, and this is one of the early RHD cars, chassis 752547, completed in July 1965 and delivered to Alfa Romeo Great Britain.

Its history is unusual. It went to Australia, where it was damaged in a workshop fire under its second owner, then passed through several collectors and a full restoration completed in 2002. During that work it was returned to 1570cc with a new block from Roman tuner Franco Angellini. The present owner bought it through Duttons of Melbourne in 2008 and brought it to the UK.

Over the past 18 years it has been returned to Stradale (road) specification, with early chrome quarter lights, one-piece bumpers and the original half-moon Campagnolo alloy wheels. Recent work includes a gearbox rebuild at Cloverleaf Transmissions and a new clutch. It comes with the rare original English-language driver's manual. No mileage is stated.
