The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 is widely rated as the finest pre-war sports car, and chassis 2111006 is the sixth of the first-series cars, built in 1931 on the short 'Corto' chassis for the factory Alfa Corse team. Its first known race was the 1931 Belgian Grand Prix, where Ferdinando Minoia and Giovanni Minozzi finished third.
Scuderia Ferrari bought it that July, and Tazio Nuvolari won the Coppa Ciano in it days later. It then ran in the 1932 Mille Miglia and Targa Florio, and won the Coppa Messina with Pietro Ghersi driving. After Italian, Luxembourgish, Belgian and American ownership it came to England under Rodney Felton, and later passed through the hands of Bruce Vanyo, Alain de Cadenet and the Eric Heerema collection. It won a special class at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed Cartier Style et Luxe.
Since 2019 the car has been restored by Jim Stokes Workshops to 1932 Scuderia Ferrari Mille Miglia specification. The work took 6,500 hours and about £805,000, and included a new engine so the original could be spared. The original engine and the period-fitted Zagato Spider body are retained, with the body preserved and a new bacquet-style body fitted. The car has since completed the Mille Miglia, Le Mans Classic and the Modena Cento Ore. The price is on application.
