This 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 is a Turismo model, with the single-overhead-cam, single-carburettor version of Vittorio Jano's straight-six. The claimed output is 46 bhp, good for a top speed close to 70mph. It carries its original James Young drophead coupé coachwork, an unusual British body on an Italian chassis, with wind-up windows for all-weather use. The car is a matching-numbers example, chassis 0412364.
The ownership story is the main attraction: the same keeper bought it in April 1958 for £70 and has kept it for 67 years. The car was first registered in Birmingham in August 1931, and a history file lists earlier owners. The owner rebuilt the engine between 1958 and 1960, recommissioned the car in 1984, and then had it restored slowly by Arthur Archer of Great Dunmow. The restoration kept the single-cam layout and the James Young body, and the car was finished in cellulose paint.
The dealer has recently completed a full engine rebuild, including new conrods, over the past two years, and describes the car as in superb running order. It has been toured in the UK and on the Continent, including a 2010 trip to Lake Como for the Alfa Romeo centenary. It is finished in blue with red wheels. No mileage is stated.
