About this car

This 1953 Turner F2 is a period Formula 2 single-seater built for John Webb, a director of Turner Cars and a keen amateur racer. Turner enlarged the Lea Francis engine to two litres, added a twin-plug cylinder head of its own design and fitted twin SU carburettors, for roughly 145hp. Power goes through an Armstrong pre-selector gearbox.

In period it was driven by Webb, Ron Flockhart and, most successfully, Jack Fairman, at Goodwood, Silverstone and Crystal Palace. It then spent more than 50 years with the Perkins family from the late 1950s, before passing to the current owner by inheritance in 2011.

The car was restored in the 1990s by Rod Jolly and recommissioned by IN Racing in 2017. It carries current HTP papers, which makes it eligible for historic racing and hillclimb events.
