This 1916 Talbot 4CYX is a veteran-era four-seat tourer with an Australian story. It left Britain as a bare chassis and was bodied in Melbourne by coachbuilder Walter Whitbourn, and it still wears that tourer body. Its 12hp four-cylinder side-valve engine drives through a cone clutch and four-speed gearbox, with brakes on the rear wheels only.
The car has had a well-documented life. It was dated by the Veteran Car Club of Australia in 1995. It returned to Britain in 1999 and received the age-related registration SV 7832, then was dated by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain later that year. Owners have included a Melbourne collection, Queensland and Sydney enthusiasts, and a Buckinghamshire owner who commissioned new wire wheels, hubs and beaded-edge tyres in 2011.
It is restored and finished in green over black with red coachlines, with buttoned leather seating. Dual ignition by magneto and trembler coil is fitted, and the magneto has been overhauled by Vintage Magnetos of Bicester Heritage. The car is currently in Austria, where it is also registered, and the dealer shows the price as accepted.
