About this car
The Shadow DN5 is one of the "high airbox" Formula 1 cars of the mid-1970s, drawn by Tony Southgate. It was quick enough to take pole positions and lead races, but reliability problems cost the team results.
This car was described by Shadow team owner Don Nichols as a test and development chassis, and it was never raced in period. It passed from Nichols to George Folmer, a former Shadow driver, and was later rebuilt for historic racing.
It has recently been recommissioned, with new HTP papers valid until 2035, a fresh crack test certificate and new safety equipment. It contested the Masters F1 race at Brands Hatch earlier this year. The Cosworth DFV has covered just under 300 miles since a comprehensive rebuild, and a spares package is included.
