Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca By Schutter & Van Bakel

This 1938 Phantom III carries unusual Dutch coachwork by Schutter & Van Bakel of Amsterdam, a firm better known for bodies on Alfa Romeo and Bugatti chassis. The result is a razor-edged sedanca brougham with a look that would suit a car a decade older. It is finished in black with a hand-painted red coachline and polished aluminium on the bonnet tops and sides.

It was ordered new for the Amsterdam banker and art collector Dr Fritz Mannheimer. The second owner was Willem Dreesmann, chairman of the Vroom & Dreesmann retail group, and the car still wears his A.N.W.B. touring plate. It later went to the USA before being repatriated by the dealer Charles Howard. It was previously Dutch registered, and UK registration has been applied for.

The odometer reads 68,000 miles, which the dealer believes is correct given the lack of wear on the pedals and the tight steering. The rear compartment keeps its original dark blue velour, and the front has non-original black leather. Two occasional seats fold from the bulkhead to make it a seven-seater, and a set of original small tools is present. A major service is under way, and a new sedanca hood covering is being made.
