Chassis 956-103 is one of just twelve customer Porsche 956s built for 1983 to the earlier factory specification. It was supplied new to Thunderbird Racing for the American Preston Henn and ran in the World Endurance Championship.
Its Le Mans record is the main draw. It finished 10th overall in 1983, then second overall in 1984 with Jean Rondeau and John Paul Jr, behind the Joest 956B. It later raced in Japan for Taisan and Nova Engineering, and passed through Vern Schuppan and Rob Dyson before Chris Crawford of Group C Limited bought it in 1996.
The rebuild was completed in 2004 and the car finished second in a historic Le Mans race that year. The page says the engine has very low hours and is maintained periodically by Katana. The engine was upgraded to Motronic injection in 1985 and runs that way today. The car is in 1984 Le Mans long-tail configuration with Swap Shop livery. Documents include the original Porsche invoice to Thunderbird Racing, the 1983 FIA Technical Passport and the 1983 sale agreement to Taisan. Price is on application.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Porsche Motorsport/Museum technical data for the 956 Group C race car: 2.65-litre twin-turbo flat-six. It's a racing prototype, not a road car. Power, weight and performance figures are left blank because the 1983 published figures for this exact spec aren't confirmed.).
