This 1966 Porsche 911 2.0 has a genuine Le Mans connection. It was built and sold through Sonauto to the French racing driver Patrice Sanson. In April 1967 it was used in the Essais Préliminaires du Mans, the pre-race qualifying weekend, after the team's 911S was sidelined by a fuel system problem. Sanson qualified second in the 2.0-litre GT category with a best lap of 4:49. That result helped the team secure its place in the June race.
After Le Mans the car was used for a few hill climbs. It returned to the factory in May 1968, when the 2.0-litre engine was uprated. The Kardex documents this work, and the car also has a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
The car has been restored by MMC GmbH in the correct Light Ivory 6404 with a black interior trimmed by Ferrarese. It has a matching-numbers 901-type engine and matching gearbox, both rebuilt by Rennsport of Reggio Emilia. The work is photographically documented and invoiced, and the car was reported as solid and original before restoration began. It currently wears a reversible 1967 Essais Préliminaires livery. It can be viewed by appointment in northern Italy.
