About this car
This is chassis X5, the prototype Nash-Healey. It began life as the Healey Silverstone X4, built to take a Cadillac V8. When Donald Healey struck a deal with Nash instead, the car was fitted with Nash's 3.8-litre engine and a three-speed gearbox with Borg Warner overdrive, and renumbered X5.
Its competition record is unusually strong. It was registered in the UK on 6 April 1950 as JWD 300 and started that year's Mille Miglia with number 723, finishing 177th overall. Reworked for Le Mans, it was driven by Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton to fourth overall and third in class. The dealer says it is the only Nash-Healey race car built left-hand drive.
After Le Mans the car went to the USA. A private owner took it on in 1971 and parked it after about a year. The current owner bought it roughly seven years ago and has spent the last five restoring it to its 1950 Le Mans specification. It keeps its original JWD 300 plate and original engine, number 61680. The page gives no mileage. It lists the year as 2022, which looks like a restoration date rather than the car's build year.
