Morgan Plus 8 5.0 Sports

This 1985 Morgan Plus 8 started life as a successful racer in the Morgan Challenge, campaigned by Peter Horsman, now Chairman of the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association. Scottish Morgan specialist Revolutions of Perth took it in during 2021 as a full Class B race car. The brief changed part-way through the build, from a faster race car to a very quick road car.

Power comes from a new 5.0-litre Rover V8 from J.E. Developments with Weber downdraught carburettors, quoted at over 420 bhp and 380 lb ft, through a four-speed manual gearbox. Underneath it is still largely a race car, with the original chassis powder-coated black, the wooden frame refitted, an aluminium radiator and fuel tank, adjustable suspension with anti-tramp bars and uprated brakes all round. The cosmetics are road-going: Ivory White paint, maroon leather and a maroon hood. A set of six race wheels and tyres is included.

The current owner bought it from Revolutions in May 2024 after a rebuild costing close to £100,000. It has covered just 1,175 miles since then. In March 2025 it had a race check and service at Techniques in Hertfordshire, with harness bar, Schroth harnesses and a new red mohair hood fitted. It is classed as a Historic Vehicle, so it is exempt from road tax and MOT, and the page lists an HPI check and build documents.
