2022 Mercedes-Benz SL SL55 AMG Premium Plus

The R232-generation SL55 AMG marks a return to the nameplate's roots as a proper two-door AMG roadster, developed entirely by Affalterbach rather than shared with the standard SL line. This 2022 example is finished in black with MANUFAKTUR nappa leather in macchiato beige and titanium grey — a two-tone specification that lifts the cabin considerably over the standard trim options. Showing 31,650 miles, it is specified to Premium Plus level with the Driving Assistance Package, Head Up Display, Blind Spot Assist, heated seats and THERMOTRONIC climate control.

Power comes from AMG's M177 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, here delivering 469 bhp and a quoted 700 Nm of torque through the nine-speed MCT gearbox and, for the first time on an SL, the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. The result is 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a 183 mph top speed. Rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilisation are standard, giving the car a sharper edge than the previous R231 SL55 ever mustered.

As the entry point into the new SL hierarchy below the SL63, the SL55 has become the value play in the range while retaining the same hand-built engine, fabric roof architecture and 2+2 layout.
