Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Fintail

The W111 "Fintail" arrived in 1959 and kept its tail fins until the 1965 restyle. The 220 SEb sat at the top of the range, with a fuel-injected six-cylinder engine, automatic gearbox and power steering. Mercedes quoted 120 bhp, enough for a top speed above 100 mph that it could sustain for hours.

This right-hand-drive UK car shows 65,000 miles. It has had five owners, and the last of them kept it for 16 years. He had it restored, including a full body and chassis rebuild with panels replaced where needed, and engine and mechanical rebuilds. The carpets were renewed to original specification. It keeps its original B-Tex interior and has always been finished in light beige, with correct white wall tyres.

The history file is extensive. It holds the original service book and handbooks, plus a driver's log book recording the Continental touring the car has done over the past 12 years. The dealer says it has been set up for that use. The cherished registration is not included in the sale.
